This is a management role in support of routine activities for plant screening and data delivery in Plant Pathology in Asia, with a primary goal to meet breeder/client requirements. The R&D Manager will develop and implement efficient management processes and methods to improve and/or introduce new technical applications for plant pathology; improve short to long-term qualitative and quantitative efficiency in alignment with corporate goals; and align and coordinate development and implementation of relevant methods and tools linked to this activity, in collaboration with the Discovery and Operations Teams.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
This position will be responsible for management of the Asia Pathology Support Platform dedicated to routine plant screening and data delivery with the aim to provide the best service in terms of quality, efficiency and competitiveness to internal and external clients.
· Conduct and manage Support activities in pathology in Asia facilities to support breeder/client requirements
· Ensure productivity and cost efficiency for data or plant production in accordance with requested quality, timeline and quantities
· Improve protocols, methods, and processes in a spirit of continuous improvement and cost effectiveness in collaboration with other laboratories
· Elaborate and monitor relevant KPI and regularly benchmark production performance based on key numbers
· Manage the teams, assign and oversee key objectives for the activity; recruit employees
· Actively manage and monitor phytosanitary status on R&D stations in Asia following SHIELD protocols and company rules as described for phytosanitary status
· Optimize human capital and running budget of the teams under their responsibility
· Establish and propose to their Manager CAPEX, OPEX and PERC for the team in Asia
· Conduct and manage transfer of protocols and methods in collaboration with Trait & Technologies team
· Accept responsibilities as liaison for project collaborations including reporting for Support and Development projects
· Actively participate in activities in the lab, field and greenhouse (~40% of total activity)
· Establish schedule and timelines for annual activities including an activity by labor requirement
· Provide training and support, as needed, for activities in pathology
· Generate reports and summaries required in a timely manner
· Assign and oversee key objectives with direct report(s)
· Review and approve plant pathology Support team performance management (i.e. performance appraisals, employee advancement, disciplinary actions)
· Follow workplace safety rules, regulations, standards and practices
Education & work experience required:
• PhD required in plant pathology with 10+ years' experience, or Master of Science (M. Sc.) with 15+ years' experience
• Experience in service platform management required with good experience in continuous improvement and efficiency management (KPI monitoring)
• International and matrix experience is desirable
• English language skills mandatory
