To ensure a safe and secure work environment for all employees, the R&D Health, Safety, and Environmental Coordinator will lead and monitor the development, preparation, and implementation of HMC HSE policies and activities at multiple R&D stations within the region. This role aims to minimize the risk of accidents affecting people and the environment, reduce the incidence of accidents, and achieve our safety and environmental goals. The role ensures the production of high-quality vegetable seed and vegetable transplants to the standards and expectations established by the breeding, research, and operations teams under guidance of the Regional R&D Operations Director while respecting our HSE commitment and standards.
Health and Safety Management
· Coordinate and support the implementation of HSE Management strategies on a department/country level in cooperation with the R&D Global Management Team, Regional Safety Manager, and station specific leadership.
· Develop and implement site-specific safety and environmental road maps, manage projects, and deploy safety strategies in collaboration with stakeholders. Ensure continuous improvement and compliance with regional and global standards.
· Lead regional R&D Safety committee. Participate, guide and support local R&D station safety committees.
· Coordinate and maintain the Local Safety Coordinator network at the R&D stations ensuring clear direction and consistent application of HSE polices across R&D stations.
· Coordinate the implementation and maintenance of the Hazard and Risk assessment for the R&D stations, including JSA’s.
· Participate/implement safety procedures as per company standards in coordination with regional and global safety department.
· Contribute to the elaboration of internal safety regulations in accordance with company policies (Safety Essentials, Safety handbook, LOTO, Chemical Risk, Fire Risk, Machine in Motion, etc.)
· Involved with environmental missions as assigned by the R&D department.
· Provide, analyze and control Safety KPIs concerning his/her scope.
· Support compliance of OSHA regulations and standards (IIPP, CSP, Workers Compensation, etc.)
· Develop higher or appropriate technical and managerial standards to contribute on developing a strong Safety Culture in the company.
· Actively support the station Illness and Injury Prevention Plan – assist with new employee safety training for the Research Stations and uphold/enforce new safety protocols and safety trainings.
· Actively support the HM Clause safety program and promote a culture of safety.
Projects, Audits, and Training
· Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards while implementing practical solutions to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
· Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence within R&D operations.
· Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards, including waste management, air and water quality, and hazardous materials handling.
· Responsible in coordinating trainings, keep accurate records, and participate in safety audits throughout the year with station leadership.
· Provide training and support to R&D employees on Health, Safety & Environment Management with focus on Local Safety Coordinators located at R&D stations.
· Evaluate and recommend adequate personal protective equipment.
BS degree in Occupational health and safety, Agriculture or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates with master`s degree in relevant field is preferred
8-10+ years experience with crew supervision and HSE is preferred.
Candidates with international exposure is preferred
Candidate is expected to excellent oral and written communication skills in English and local languages.
