Main Goal
1. ROLE WITHIN THE SUBSIDIARY
This position is part of the company's strategy for the tomato and pepper breeding program, defined by the Research Center, in accordance with the company's general policy.
2. PURPOSE
Support the tomato and pepper genetic improvement program, at the Culiacán research center, for the development of competitive and successful commercial varieties in different market segments worldwide.
3. LOCATION: The area of influence and responsibility is in Culiacán and the Center-South of Mexico
4. GENERAL MISSION:
Under the supervision of the Breeder and/or the Breeder Assistant, the collaborator is responsible for the planning, supervision, monitoring and execution of the daily tasks associated with the tomato and pepper breeding program in Culiacán (without being limited) such as: sowing, transplanting, crossing, harvesting, phenotypic evaluations, seed stock, providing support in the shipment and importation of seeds in Mexico and Europe, reporting results and updating them on the BOS database, and training and supervision of field personnel assigned to plant breeding using available resources.
Job description
1. SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES:
v GENERAL ACTIVITIES
• Establishment and supervision of trials: Plan, organize, execute, and follow up on the planting, planting, and harvesting of plant breeding trials mainly in Culiacán and other territories at the national level if necessary, under the direction of the Breeder and/or Breeder Assistant in order to carry out the evaluations efficiently and correctly. Selections, crosses and planned harvests.
• Hybridizations: Carry them out following the instructions of the Breeder and/or the Breeder Assistant in charge, manage the hybridization trials of the station, through the establishment of the trial, monitoring, evaluation of necessary resources, supervision of the field personnel assigned to the realization of crosses, active participation in the execution of manual pollinations to ensure compliance with the Hybridization Plan.
• Seed inventory management: following the instructions of the Breeder and/or Breeder Assistant to ensure the production, extraction, disinfection and drying of seeds in the facilities. Also ensure the correct identification, labeling, processing, storage, and weighing required, both seed lots produced at the station and from other locations (received from Europe for example), so that they are properly stored at the station, complying with the quality control, traceability and plant health protocols established by the company.
• Labeling: You will be responsible for the creation and printing of the labels necessary for the correct identification of seed lots, sowings, plants, fruits, plots or other entities associated with seed storage, as well as plantings, sampling, collection and evaluations.
• Leaf Sampling: Plan, organize and execute sampling and shipments of plant material for molecular analysis and disease diagnosis including coordination with all teams involved (Pathology and Operations)
• Phytosanitary practices: following the company's protocols and the instructions of the Breeder and/or Breeder Assistant, plan, prepare and execute the necessary operations to ensure plant health standards at the station. It includes seed health analysis, sampling for crop monitoring and certification inspections with the corresponding bodies or companies, related to the issuance of Phytosanitary certificate/passport, as well as seed exports to ensure the shipment of these on time within and outside the European Union, following the protocols established for the movement of plant material in and out of the season.
• Crop Monitoring: In coordination with field staff, assist in crop monitoring to ensure optimal plant growth and assessments, including detection and advice to correct anomalies in conditions and crop management, to detect the presence of pests and diseases.

Skills: what we expect of you
v CONTRIBUTING ACTIVITIES:
• BOS Software: Update and manage the seed inventory of the station in Culiacán in the BOS database. Record the cultivation operations carried out at the Culiacán station and when required in Murcia or on request, in other locations. The data to be updated are: sowing, planting, sampling, crossing blocks, hybridizations, collections, seed shipments, sampling for molecular analysis, pathology analysis, and other operations. It will also be responsible for the entry of results or other data referring to seed batches or assays, including phenotypic data or field evaluations, molecular marker and pathology results, results of health analyses, among others. Ensure the preparation of the "field notebooks" of the Breeder and the Breeder Assistant, with the most up-to-date versions following their instructions.
• Personnel management: Organize, implement, and supervise the work of field workers assigned to accomplish plant breeding tasks. Forecast and plan work needs for the season, with the ability to adapt the operational work plan based on daily needs and available resources. Participate in the recruitment and training of new field personnel dedicated to plant breeding activities.
• Travel: The activity may require travel to agricultural enterprises or other external facilities, as well as to other national locations with plant breeding trials in order to carry out phenotypic evaluations necessary for the achievement of plant breeding activities.
1. HIERARCHICAL LINE AND COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS
v REPORTS DIRECTLY TO THE BREEDER ASSISTANT.
· This position will report to the Breeder Assistant, who will provide support and advice for the correct execution of the assigned work processes. The Breeder Assistant will support you in making proper decisions. The ideal candidate will have the autonomy to perform specific tasks flexibly, as delegated by the Breeder and the Breeder Assistant.
