Main Goal
In our Research Center in Chappes (63), near from Clermont-Ferrand, France, within our Field Seeds Research organization, we are looking for a Quantitative Geneticist to join our Biostatistics and Bioinformatics platform, on a permanent contract.
The Biostatistics team is responsible for designing, evaluating, and implementing advanced analytical methods. These methods are used by breeders to maximize the genetic progress and the efficiency of their breeding programs. The Biostatistics team provides expertise on several areas of statistics, in particular quantitative genetics, population genetics and industrial quality control methods.
Acting as an internal expert in quantitative genetics applied to plant breeding, your activities will mainly be to develop decision support methods for selection, to participate in the development of new analysis tools and to provide methodological support to selection teams. In this context, you will have to collaborate with your colleagues in the Biostatistics team and with selection teams on an international scale.
Job description
Your main tasks will be :
- Use quantitative genetics theory to develop new analytical methods and tools, in particular for the calibration, prediction and use of estimated genetic values in selection. Support the deployment of these tools.
- Perform analysis on large selection datasets (phenotypic, genotypic, sequencing data, haplotypes, etc.).
- Simulate and analyze the effectiveness of breeding programs, with the goal of providing practical recommendations to breeders.
- Train our end users in selection support tools and disseminate the good practices necessary for marker-assisted selection activities.
- Contribute to scientific narrative within the Limagrain group in general and the Field Seeds division in particular.
Profile
You have a PhD in quantitative genetics, statistics or population genetics, ideally with a previous experience in plant or animal breeding.
Rigorous, serious, dynamic, you have a strong taste for data analysis and programming. Innovative, you like to develop new methods and tools in line with selection needs.
You enjoy teamworking. As a good communicator and pedagogue, you will be required to exchange with our team of experts but also to explain the concepts of genetics to non-experts.
Given the international scope of your missions, you are fluent in oral and written English.
This permanent contract offer is to be filled as soon as possible at our Research Center in Chappes (63), 20kms from Clermont-Ferrand, France.
